The East African Rift is one of the most beautiful and diverse regions of the continent. Along the Omo River in Ethiopia, across Lake Turkana and Tsavo National Park in Kenya, to the shores of the Indian Ocean, photographer Timo Heiny has traveled for years, visiting the local tribes, some of whom live in isolation. These are documents of various and individual ways of life, showcasing proud people who have preserved their traditions for centuries and live in harmony with the primal nature. His photographs do not depict the touristy exoticism of the foreign; rather, they are unobtrusive, sensitive portraits and a personal testament to a passion for the land and its people. At the same time, his book serves as a quiet warning, as the geopolitical developments in East Africa threaten to erase this unique cultural heritage.
