Since 2003, the artist Daniela Comani has been working on her photographic project "A Happy Marriage." In this project, she explores roles and gender assignments through the representation of her own persona, allowing the happy couple to slip into everyday situations. Daniela Comani is her own model; she stages herself in her multi-part photo series simultaneously as both a man and a woman in a modern intellectual marriage, where gender relations should no longer matter. However, facial expressions, gestures, poses, and clothing speak their own language. The gender positions of man/woman, dependent on the heterosexual couple dynamic, appear so disturbingly that the question of who is who and who plays whom subtly and subversively collapses in on itself.
