Everyone has seen these images in the Swiss press: A person stands at the edge of the picture and points at something - a window, a meadow, a red Mitsubishi, a bullet hole. The expression is inviting, accusatory, outraged, self-righteous, or even proud, perhaps joyful. The caption then reveals what it is about. A man points at the window from which a hard-of-hearing pensioner shot with a rifle. An unemployed man points at the river from which he rescued a woman. Or the caretaker of the primary school of the newly elected Federal Councillor Doris Leuthard can still vividly remember where her little bag was hanging. The gesture of pointing directs attention, establishes a connection, a chronology. With simple but very effective means, a story is created.
