The Zurich photographer Niklaus Stauss has always been interested in cultural subjects throughout his long and extraordinary career. Over more than sixty years in the profession, he has photographed over 50,000 personalities from art, music, theater, opera, literature, film, and dance. He has been backstage with Louis Armstrong, photographed Brigitte Bardot from his air mattress, and accompanied Swiss cultural figures such as Niklaus Meienberg, Harald Szeemann, and Daniel Schmid for many years. He is not a paparazzo; he simply photographs the people in the places where he finds himself. Even if they are not (yet) famous, he finds all individuals interesting because they may possess something that will emerge in the future. Thus, this exhibition often features images from the beginnings of great careers and events.
