Walter Keller founded Der Alltag - Sensations of the Ordinary in 1978, co-founded the art magazine Parkett in 1984 with Bice Curiger, Jacqueline Burckhardt, and Peter Blum, established the photo book publisher Scalo - Books and Looks in 1991, and in 1993, he created the Fotomuseum Winterthur. An impressive track record. But it pales in comparison to the overflowing creativity, curiosity, inspiration, and energy with which Walter Keller engaged, fascinated, motivated, and sometimes exasperated friends, foes, journalists, gallery owners, exhibition curators, photographers, publicists, graphic designers, and collectors for nearly 40 years. Walter Keller passed away unexpectedly on the night of November 1, 2014, right in the midst of preparations for exhibitions on Dürrenmatt and the Cold War, contemporary Chinese photography, and a thousand other ideas.
