In Christian Lockers stories, reality appears to be very relative, a fact that has been unmistakable since "Setzen! Nicht genügend!" In his new novel, he once again turns his back on logic and what is commonly referred to as everyday experience or common sense, and this time he does so in a particularly exaggerated manner. Modern physics is well aware of parallel universes, but the character of this term changes when it takes on flesh, when it is populated by people: figures step out of pictures, a long-deceased mother stands in the room, current murders occur with a parrying dagger, and at Wienerberg, hangings happen again, while the GDR continues to exist. The gateway between worlds seems to be a mundane office, a banal oil painting in a mundane office. A procession of bizarre characters fills an equally bizarre Vienna.
