Work and health are in conflict when the demands of everyday work do not align with the resources available to cope with them. The increasing performance demands place a heavy burden on employees—often too much: Many then see only the option of exploiting their own resources; overload and exhaustion are the consequences. It is evident that conventional occupational health and safety measures, as well as workplace health promotion, are no longer sufficient to counteract this trend. Those who want to address the issue effectively must also engage with corporate performance policies.
