The Bunker Valentin in Bremen-Farge was one of the largest armaments projects of the Nazi Navy. The gigantism of the bunker construction still exerts a frightening effect today. Equally immense was the suffering and hardship experienced by the several thousand forced and civilian workers involved in the construction. Based on many new findings and newly discovered documents, this book presents the history of the bunker construction. Its significance for the strategic planning of the Navy is explained, the roles of individual people—both perpetrators and victims—are examined, and the relationship of the local population in Farge to the construction is also considered, along with the tumultuous history of the bunker after 1945. This provides a reliable overall presentation that is intended to accompany the memorial site "Bunker Valentin," which is currently under development.
