They hiked nearly 300 kilometers, always following the life traces of Wilhelm Busch - from his birthplace Wiedensahl near Hanover to Mechtshausen near Seesen in the Harz Mountains, where he spent his final years. In fourteen days, this journey led writer Gerhard Henschel and photojournalist Gerhard Kromschröder through deep Lower Saxony to all the places that held special significance for the great illustrator, poet, and painter; where he spent his childhood and later created almost all of his works. The hikers visit Wilhelm Busch's birthplace, marvel at the last quill he used in Lüthorst, hear the mill grinding in Ebergötzen, which is considered the setting for the story of Max and Moritz, and finally, Henschel and Kromschröder stand before Busch's simple gravestone. In their search for traces, the authors also explored the paths of others.
