FACE A FACE is a photographic exploration of the mythical aspects of the Alps and the landscapes directly opposite them. From 2013 to 2015, photographer Maurice Schobinger and mountain guide Pierre Abramowski traveled through the Alps to capture the most impressive rock faces. The images were taken from a helicopter at mid-height in a face-to-face encounter with the mountain; afterward, the photographer turned 180 degrees to capture the opposing view. He consistently chose a whitish light, softened by high cloud fields, which alone can convey all the nuances of the mountain range. Unlike the mountain photographs seen in the press or advertising, this is a long-term project, a tribute to slowness, and an intimate, humble approach to the forces of nature.
