The palindrome is a current work by Markus Raetz, which is being presented for the first time in this artist's book. The setting is La Gara near Geneva. There, the internationally renowned artist, together with Belgian landscape architect Erik Dhont, has created a palindrome labyrinth. For decades, Markus Raetz has been designing and shaping forms that adapt, intersect, overlap, and transform, driven by an imagination that draws from formal explorations, a keen sense of language, and craftsmanship. He quickly realized that this location could accommodate a plant labyrinth, similar to those sometimes found in old estates. The layout of this labyrinth, consisting of eight tree species, is characterized by the unexpected freedom of its meanders and detours, even though its intersections are arranged according to the letters of a Latin palindrome.
