The photographs of Brigitte Lustenberger are rooted in contemporary art creation and simultaneously relate to painting, film, or television. The depth of her images invites the viewer to reflect on art and life. These photographs are composed like paintings and possess their expressive power. The flowers and the three-quarter view of the models, whose gaze fixes on the viewer, evoke paintings by Rembrandt or Caravaggio. However, it is not only their composition but also the use of light that is influenced by Baroque imagery: as in those works, the subjects stand out from the dark background thanks to the skillful use of color and chiaroscuro effects that shape the faces and make them emerge from the dark material. The work of Brigitte Lustenberger is featured in international exhibitions and notably received the Photography Prize in 2002.
