The present work by the successful author duo Jussupow and Dworezki, now in its 6th edition, is aimed at players who have moved beyond the basics of chess and wish to delve deeper into the topic of opening treatment. However, effective opening training does not fall into the category of typical opening monographs. Instead, it aims to present general principles and methods of opening play, demonstrate effective handling of chess work, provide assistance in building an opening repertoire and developing innovations, and help internalize the material through examples and exercises. The authors do not encourage the mechanical memorization of variations, but rather promote independent study of opening situations and problems, as well as creative analysis of the systems preferred by the reader.
