Praktische Grammatik der katalanischen Sprache is a new, easy-to-understand learning and reference grammar for German-speaking learners of Catalan, for whom no such detailed textbook was previously available. It is the result of the author's many years of teaching experience at various universities and is aimed primarily at students of Catalan studies. The grammar can also be used with benefit by advanced Catalan learners in self-study. It complements the textbook used in class and provides in-depth information on all the main grammatical phenomena of the standard Catalan language, including the most important features of the Valencian and Balearic varieties.

After an introductory chapter on the pronunciation and spelling of Catalan, the individual parts of speech (noun, article, adjective, etc.) are systematically presented with regard to their forms, usage and any special features. Further chapters are devoted to the verb and its complements, the infinitive forms, the structure of the sentence and word formation. The grammar concludes with an appendix containing an overview of the most important irregular Catalan verbs. A comprehensive and detailed word and subject index allows you to look up grammatical questions quickly and easily.

The specialised terminology in the individual grammar chapters is limited to the necessary minimum and corresponds to the terms used in common Catalan textbooks. Explanations and rules are illustrated with detailed examples. Vocabulary, expressions and phrases have been chosen so that they can be used as usefully as possible in everyday communication and can be modified without difficulty. All example sentences are translated into German so that learners can expand their active vocabulary at the same time. This grammar is supplemented by the Catalan grammar exercise book.
