Egon Schiele
German, Kerstin Jesse, Stella Rollig, 2018Product details
The Austrian Gallery acquired an oil painting by the artist in 1918, making it the first Austrian museum to do so during the artist's lifetime. Today, this painting is part of one of the highest quality collections of Schiele's works from 1907 to 1918. The catalog examines each individual piece and addresses questions regarding the acquisition, the subjects, and related works. At the same time, the volume presents for the first time the results of the technical investigations that have been ongoing since 2016. Additionally, it sheds light on the history of the Schiele collection, which has evolved through museum reforms, art exchange initiatives, and the restitution of individual works.
