Currently, educational science discourses focus on researching the competencies of teacher education students. The reason for examining teacher education students in terms of the competencies required for their future profession lies in the frequently observed phenomena of burnout and early retirement among teachers. This raises two key questions: What competencies are necessary for successfully completing the degree and for effective teaching in schools, and what competencies do we find among the students? Based on empirical findings, this volume presents competency profiles of teacher education students and explains university programs aimed at promoting relevant study and professional competencies. Furthermore, established and currently developed interventions are discussed.
