Product details
Áttila József is one of the most significant poets of European modernism, alongside Mandelstam, Pessoa, Machado, Kavafis, Rilke, Eliot, and others. He is the poetic figure that has become the true symbol of identity in modern Hungarian history. His life lasted only a short time, just 32 years, a precocious talent who left behind a body of work of world literary significance. In April 2005, his 100th birthday will be celebrated. For the first time, our extensive bilingual edition, which provides a comprehensive overview of the poet's entire oeuvre, attempts to translate the poetic work directly from the Hungarian original. József masterfully utilized the poetic register that his language provided. Daniel Muth succeeds in making this richness of forms visible through his translation.
