The following pages aim to systematically highlight some of the territorial peculiarities, as organized by a geographer and an apprentice in economics and history, in which the historical-economic geography of the Tarasco state was likely shaped during the last phase of the pre-Hispanic period, referred to as late post-classical or militaristic (1200-1521 AD). This phase was characterized by the rivalry between the Tarascans and the Mexicans, within which the significance of the Tarascan state's expansionist wars involving various cultural groups stands out. To approach the study of the late pre-Hispanic economic geography of Mechuacán, we draw on several hybrid social sciences: economic history, environmental history, human geography, geodemography, historical demography, cultural ecology, political economy, ethnohistory, political anthropology, and ethnoarchaeology. The knowledge that deals with and interprets these sciences is closely interconnected, as the social processes they analyze are mutually explanatory, being simultaneous historical constructions.
