Product details

Samir Kadunic presents an effective model for predicting combustion behavior in gasoline engines and illustrates the advantages of integrating the car's air conditioning system into the charge air cooling process. A controllable low charge air temperature allows for an independent design of the combustion process from the outside air temperature. This low charge air temperature has significant potential to further increase the efficiency and power density of the turbocharged gasoline engine. To achieve this, it is essential to decouple the achievable charge air temperature as much as possible from environmental conditions. The car's air conditioning system serves as an untapped cooling reservoir for charge air cooling. Through measurements on the engine test bench, the author demonstrated that, despite the air conditioning being turned on, fuel consumption is reduced and power output is increased.
