The introduction to classical Sanskrit, developed from the teaching practices of university introductory courses, provides the fundamental knowledge of classical Sanskrit in 37 lessons with exercises. The scope of the grammatical content is roughly comparable to that of older textbooks. However, the grammatical explanations are much more detailed and do not require any prior knowledge of classical languages. To facilitate easier access to the rather complex morphology, many diagrams are used as teaching aids. The exercise material, drawn from a collection of artistic sentences and quotes from older textbooks, also offers sufficient examples for the aorist, subjunctive, and precative, unlike most other Sanskrit introductions.
