The number of Muslim children and adolescents in Germany has now exceeded one million. Daily, students come into contact with Muslims in school and leisure activities, yet there is often little knowledge about the beliefs and way of life in Islam. This teaching unit aims to contribute to the understanding and knowledge of this foreign religion and culture and, where necessary, help to reduce existing prejudices. The structure of the teaching unit into three thematic sequences: 'Mohammed and the Quran', 'Church and Mosque', and 'The Five Pillars of Islam' allows for a student-friendly introduction to the origins and spread of this second-largest religious community in the world, its religious foundations, as well as the most important terms and symbols. Each thematic sequence includes information for preparation, learning objectives, entry points, an overview of tasks, and supplementary materials.
