Furthermore, the successful treatment of whooping cough with newer antibiotics (chloramphenicol and terramycin) is highlighted. Briefly touched upon but supported by beautiful X-ray images, the clinical picture of "extensive bullous staphylococcal pneumonia (R. Debre)" is presented, which has a remarkably benign prognosis, whereas staphylococcal infections, particularly in newborns and young infants, are greatly feared due to penicillin resistance. Instead of penicillin, erythromycin and especially achromycin must be used. The BULAU method of reber drainage for infant empyema is discussed alongside sketches.
