When we talk about the work of Franz Kafka (1883-1924), we inevitably think of his literary output. Less known is that Kafka also enjoyed drawing. Kafka's friend and literary executor Max Brod noted early on that he was "also an artist of remarkable strength and individuality as a draftsman," and that his drawings were unjustly regarded as a "curiosity." This volume presents the graphic work of the poet in all its density and contextualizes it with the corresponding texts of the writer. It is an attractively designed book publication. The large-format reproductions of the drawings are juxtaposed with relevant passages from Kafka's life testimonies and narrative works, allowing for insights into Kafka's productive imagination through the interplay of visual observation and reading experience.
