Product details

Eisenberg, the city with the most pubs!, promises the whimsical opening line of a well-known Eisenberg pub song. Indeed, the former residence city can look back on a rich gastronomic tradition and a thriving hospitality industry. As early as 1274, the Thuringian landgraves granted the city brewing privileges, and in 1498, the first documented inn in Eisenberg, the Ratskeller, was established. Initially simple stables, rest, and lodging houses were joined by numerous restaurants, hotels, cafés, and taverns, especially in the 19th and 20th centuries. To this day, the traditional excursion venues in the Mühltal are particularly popular with both locals and tourists. From the holdings of the city archive and numerous private collections, Marcus Behnsen-Herbach, Ute Heyne, and Ingeburg Lohrengel have compiled around 220 images.
