Children do learn to communicate in German quickly during preschool age, but they later encounter difficulties when it comes to speaking and especially writing correctly and without grammatical errors. While access to communication and the language comprehension needed in everyday life can be easily acquired, the grammar of German contains many pitfalls and cannot be easily learned solely through listening and speaking—the natural components of language acquisition. Particularly when children are unfamiliar with articles and grammatical gender from their own language, they are unable to grasp their regularity and tend to use them based on frequency and chance. This is where the present workbook comes in. It aims to introduce children to some fundamental rules at an early stage of language acquisition, specifically at Level I.
