Gerhard Illner, a photo reporter from Leipzig and a well-known railway photographer, is likely familiar to railway enthusiasts from the former GDR. His hand prints could already be officially purchased in the early 1960s and today enrich numerous private collections. Hans Müller, a graduate of the University of Transport in Dresden and involved with various reconstruction locomotives at VES-M Halle, spent many Saturdays at Illner's home, got to know the photographer well, and over the years acquired a large portion of carefully selected Illner prints. For this, Hans Müller, himself a well-known photographer and EK book author, undertook numerous excursions with the Leipzig photo reporter, who had access to all DR offices thanks to a photography permit from the press office of the GDR Ministry of Transport. This selection of images comes from that collection.
