The postal bus was not only the modern successor to the horse-drawn mail coach, but also, after the federal railway, the largest public transport system in the young Federal Republic. Across the country, one could find the yellow postal buses, which transported passengers and mail wherever there were no railway tracks. This volume brings to life a forgotten world with magnificent, unpublished images: the typical, tranquil intercity bus services of the 1950s and 1960s, on secondary routes and scenic paths away from the major metropolises, capturing the charm of the economic miracle years and the classic road vehicles of that time. The bus network, marked by the postal horn, stretched from the sea to the Alps, where it still echoed at that time. The scenery recalls many details of the pre-war era.
