Product details
One tragedy of Electra has been preserved from each of the three great Greek tragedians. Aeschylus' 'Choephori' (the second part of the 'Oresteia') comes first; whether Sophocles followed with his 'Electra' or vice versa is disputed. The comparison of the three plays is enlightening for the interpretation of the myth. Electra's revenge on her mother Clytemnestra, who murdered Agamemnon, Electra's father, and on her stepfather Aegisthus dominates the tragedy. With 'Electra', Euripides has once again brought a powerful female figure to the stage, whose impact on European literature continues to this day.
