Concepts, actors, and constellations form the conceptual center of a sociology of elementary forms of social life. Human action is both a demand and a relief; it is driven by ideas, motivated by individual dispositions, and determined in its course by constellations. The extent of its determinative power eludes the subjective understanding of those who initiate it, as they seek to cognitively and affectively simplify the complexity of the resulting interactions through address searches and attributions. A sociology of elementary forms of social life aims to demonstrate the emergence, expression, and impact of sociality in context-specific manifestations. Elementary forms of social life arise as interactions (Georg Simmel), as configurations of obligations and self-obligations.
