Hardorp develops, following J. Schumpeter and R. Steiner, the idea that economic development, from a macroeconomic perspective, leads to additional returns that require a socially oriented allocation of profits. This is necessary to ensure that the forces of technological progress do not simultaneously result in destructive burdens on social life. An understanding of the monetary system as a state of social consciousness is derived philosophically and hermeneutically.
