Following the great success of Gail Carolyn Sirna's book "Women Who Never Lose the Thread," which was published in spring 2007 and was completely sold out just a few months after its release, textile scientist Thomas Blisniewski picks up the thread again and continues to weave it. The narrative spans from antiquity to the 20th century, telling stories of virtuous pastimes, delightful spinning tales, and the hard-earned livelihoods of young girls, refined ladies, and ordinary women. The fascination that great artists have had with this motif over the centuries is evidenced by paintings from Rubens, Velázquez, Murillo, Mary Cassatt, Renoir, Monet, Hopper, and many others.
