Product details

The stories in this volume describe the aftermath of the war and recount experiences from that time. A postman brings the notifications of the fallen to the villages ("Lost Letters"), an Englishwoman travels to the Rhineland in search of the wreck of a bomber that her father crashed ("Lancaster over Overath"), and an old man visits the village he had to leave in 1945 ("In the Land of Dandelions"). The title story tells of a woman who flees with her children from the East, reaches Mecklenburg, gives birth to another child there, and gifts it to a childless farmer. In personal experience, the end of the war dragged on significantly. For some, the war only ended when the last prisoners returned home ("Chorus 1945 ended World War II, but this event still rumbles in the minds and hearts of the prisoners"), while others interpreted the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 as their conclusion to the war ("November in Dresden"). For millions, the war had already ended before 1945. All stories have a true core, but the names of the characters are fictional.
