Product details

The banker Max Warburg (1867-1946) saved the lives of 75,000 Jews. Gabriele Hoffmann explores how he accomplished this in the first biography of this great Hamburger. His life story takes us from Klein-Jerusalem in Hamburg during the founding of the German Empire to key events in German history. He was an outstanding banker and transformed the small bank M. M. Warburg & Co. into one of the largest private banks in Germany. During significant political decisions in Berlin during the Imperial era and the Weimar Republic, he was one of the most important advisors behind the scenes. Max Warburg was a constructive thinker, humorous, charming, and very brave. At the age of 66, he began his fight for life and death, a nearly six-year negotiation with the Nazis to implement his plan to use banking resources to save people from Germany to other countries.
