Research on infants and attachment demonstrates the significant impact of early childhood on development. For families, the transition to parenthood and the early years of a child's life are very sensitive and crisis-prone phases, making supportive services helpful and often necessary. The wide range of early intervention services includes prevention, counseling, crisis intervention, and parent-infant-toddler psychotherapy. Numerous examples illustrate the various types of disturbances that can develop in the relationship between infants/toddlers and their parents, and present different psychoanalytic treatment methods.
