The Rhineland in the year 1248: In a church in the woods outside Cologne, the bodies of 26 women, men, and children are found, all without external injuries. A rumor quickly spreads across the land: three recently drowned children are said to have returned as undead, known as "Neuntöter," and killed their families. On behalf of the Archbishop of Cologne, Constable Konstantin returns to his homeland to solve the mysterious case.
