Easter 1523: Under the influence of Martin Luther's stirring writings, the nun Käthe von Bora and a handful of her fellow sisters embark on a flight from the convent that had been their spiritual and actual home for years. When they finally reach their destination, Wittenberg, relief turns to horror: one of the sisters is murdered, and another has vanished without a trace.
