Katharina Anna Fuchs is engaged in the relationship between emotion recognition and empathy. She focuses on two of the most relevant psychological disorders: psychopathy and social anxiety. She conducts separate empirical studies in both university and clinical contexts, as well as in a correctional facility. To assess the affective and cognitive components of empathy and emotion recognition, the author employs a computer-based and image-based diagnostic tool. Questions regarding emotional deficits and the ability to empathize are comparatively examined in everyday situations involving individuals with psychopathy and social anxiety. Based on the results, recommendations can be derived for correctional facilities, clinics, family members, as well as therapists, psychologists, and doctors.
