Emotions tell us what is truly important to us. In our daily lives, we experience feelings such as joy, fear, and sadness, and we recognize emotions in others. Psychological research has been studying emotions for over 100 years. Today, we have a wide range of methods for eliciting and measuring emotions. Psychological and neurobiological explanations provide answers to the question of how emotions arise. Conversely, emotions influence our thinking and behavior. This textbook addresses central questions of emotion research in an accessible manner. It is based on classical theories and studies as well as current research.
