Gentle confrontation instead of emotion avoidance. Avoidance of emotions and experiences is a central component of any psychological suffering. Since it plays a key role not only in the emergence but also in the maintenance of psychological disorders, overcoming it is one of the most important and simultaneously most challenging tasks for psychotherapists. This book presents ways to overcome avoidance, regardless of its specific content, based on the concept of the "emotional resonance space." The cross-school and cross-method work in the "emotional resonance space" is a concept developed by Lukas Nissen and Michael Sturm from schema therapy. It is largely oriented towards easily perceivable bodily processes and integrates insights from neurobiology alongside elements of schema therapy.
