The question of energy has been a concern for us for decades. Due to the climate catastrophe, it has once again come to the forefront of interest and has gained an unexpectedly urgent relevance in light of the war in Ukraine. However, there is a risk that the historical and systematic depth of this issue for humanity may be forgotten. This volume avoids the well-trodden paths of a purely conceptual history. Instead, it explores the questions "What is energy and how do we measure it?", "Energeia, God's efficacy and reality," and "Energy transitions" from the perspectives of the humanities, natural sciences, and engineering, against the backdrop of philosophy and theology. This approach allows for the recovery of overlooked aspects and branches of thought about energy beyond immediate current events.
