In her new collection of poems, Dagmara Kraus dives into a source that is rarely used for poetry: the lively bubbling of constructed languages, which are continually invented to respond to the polyglot chaos of a single tongue. Four of these constructed languages are specifically mentioned: "Myrana" by Josef Stempfl, "Volapük" by Johann Martin Schleyer, the somewhat underdeveloped "Tcatcalaqwilizi," and above all "Langue bleue," also known as "Bolak" after its creator Léon Bollack. His wish was for books in Langue bleue to be printed in blue ink – a wish we have fulfilled for poems in Langue bleue at least. However, Dagmara Kraus has not met Bollack's expectation that his language would only be used for commerce, not for literature: “The motto of the blue language: dovem pro tle, ‘second for all’ clearly indicates that its sole ambition must be to translate the most common needs, those implied by the word ‘commerce’ in its broadest sense … This delimitation excludes any literary pretension. Literature … cannot find a place in an artificially created idiom by an individual. This line of demarcation is of the utmost importance … “ The development of poetry clearly moved in the direction of language as it is dreamed and awakened by an individual.
