Efficient algorithms and data structures have proven themselves over the past few decades, even in solving seemingly hopeless practical and theoretical problems. This book introduces algorithmics with Java and presents a collection of fundamental algorithms and data structures—mathematically precise and with ready-to-use Java code. The authors develop the ideas iteratively, allowing readers to follow the individual steps from the naive solution to the final textbook algorithm. Individual algorithms are discussed in terms of their strengths and weaknesses and the results achieved. This enables users to effectively utilize the elements of the toolkit presented in the book. Numerous examples and illustrations, as well as 100 in-depth exercises, support them in this process. A solution cannot be guaranteed for all problems.
