The design idea develops ways for students to approach a design solution. In addition to fundamental suggestions for creative processes and the development of a design approach, various sources of inspiration for a design idea are presented. A focus is placed on the three elements of place, form, and function, which can serve as direct starting points for the design, but must also be integrated into all abstract approaches throughout the ongoing design process. Topics include: creativity in the design process, sources of inspiration and design approaches, engagement with the place, engagement with form, and engagement with function.
