Epilepsy. Information for Practice. The analysis of epidemiological data on the condition of epilepsy and its application to the Federal Republic of Germany has shown that a significant portion of epilepsy patients are not treated by specialists in neurology, psychiatry, or pediatrics, but rather in general medical or internal medicine practices. Additionally, routine monitoring between visits to the neurologist or pediatrician occurs in large numbers at the general practitioner. It is also important to note that the family doctor is the first point of contact for patients in almost all matters related to medical treatment. This applies to epilepsy patients as well.
