The practically active civil engineer is increasingly faced with the challenge of ensuring that their structures meet the requirements posed by seismic influences. Various recent earthquakes have shown that modern buildings do not necessarily exhibit better earthquake performance than older ones. Damage to certain structures can also pose a risk to the environment. The safety demands of society are continuously increasing. These and other reasons lead to the necessity of taking precautions against personal and property damage due to earthquakes, even in regions with moderate seismicity. This book addresses the earthquake design of frame systems, shear wall systems, and mixed structural systems, as well as foundations for full and limited ductility in reinforced concrete buildings. Significant emphasis is placed on the actual design process.
