The politically moderate Roman literature of the Weimar Republic (1918-1933) is characterized by a great diversity of approaches and strategies employed in the artistic engagement with the threatened democratic change in state and society. Particularly significant are the various forms of factual-realistic writing. This study aims to highlight and interpret, based on over seventy well-known and lesser-known works, the possibilities for literary-aesthetic engagement with political themes that were explored at the time, as well as those that were missed, with a certain claim to relevance. In contrast to the usual approach in politically oriented literary studies, the focus here is not primarily on the content of the included texts; rather, the emphasis lies elsewhere.
