Product details
The importance of space in the novels of Haruki Murakami is evident in the constant presence of real and imaginary counter-spaces in his texts. In Murakami's novels, binary spatial constructions can be identified, characterized by contrasting semanticizations that significantly influence both the characters and the narrative action. An analysis of this spatial semantics illustrates how Murakami, through this specific spatial arrangement in his work, initiates socially critical counter-discourses and prompts for thought. Therefore, the focus of the study is on the analysis of literary space, whose function, in light of the spatial turn, is no longer perceived merely as a backdrop but is regarded as an integral component in the construction of literary worlds. The analysis also draws on Jurij Lotman's model of binary spatial oppositions.
