It premiered in Munich in early January 1933, but just a few weeks later, it had to go into exile: the "Pfeffermühle," a cabaret troupe led by Erika Mann and Therese Giehse. In over a thousand performances on the small art stages of Switzerland, the Netherlands, Czechoslovakia, and finally the USA, the "Pfeffermühle" presented its politically satirical revues.
