Johannes Lenz, born in Prague in 1927, belongs to the second generation of leading figures of the Christian Community, following prominent founders such as Friedrich Rittelmeyer and Emil Bock. As a young pastor, Lenz worked in Stuttgart and Munich, and soon took on leadership roles as a director and senior director, which led him to be responsible for Southern Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, as well as to South America for the establishment of local congregations there.
