I write memories. I believe it will be quite entertaining. It is not unusual for a member of the Wagner family to write down their life story; rather, it is more remarkable that entertainment value is a criterion in the writing process. In the memoirs first published in 1923, Siegfried Wagner (1869-1930) describes the family's trips to Italy until the death of Richard Wagner, sketches brief portraits of the artists who shaped the Bayreuth Festival, and traces the course of the festival up to the year 1914. A distinct focus is provided by excerpts from the diary of an East Asia trip in 1892. A detailed afterword complements the new edition.
